When i was five years old, i told my mom i wanted to be a pediatrician-so all the kids could live with me. At the time, i didn’t fully understand what i meant….but now i do.
I didn’t become a pediatrician, but i grew into that same little girl’s dream in a different way.
After feeling unfulfilled in many jobs, i finally started doing what makes my heart come alive: helping children. I began feeding and supporting kids in January of this year, and for the first time in a long time… it felt like home.
I wake up with energy. I go to bed with gratitude. And i am overwhelmed-in the best way-by the love and support surrounding this work.
I’m a single mom to a five-year-old girl. So when i see the children i serve, I don’t just see kids- I see my daughter’s friends. I see mothers like me, mostly single moms, doing their best with very little. And when i look at how blessed i am, and how lucky my daughter is to have what she needs, it makes me want to give even more.
This isn’t just a passion project. It’s my purpose. I want to feed these children, bring them joy, clothe them, educate them, and above all, I want to build a completely free school in my hometown, Larteh-Akuapem, for children who can’t afford fees and a hot meal.
The Ampem Darkoa Foundation is more than a name. It’s a promise to every child who’s ever gone to school hungry, walked barefoot, or felt invisible.
This is just the beginning, but it’s already the most meaningful thing I’ve ever done.
Thankyou for reading-and for walking with me on this journey.
With love,
EiJay Frimpong,
Founder, The Ampem Darkoa Foundation
